Canadian singer songwriter, Gino Vannelli wore many hats. Composer, vocalist, conductor, etc. His father was a big band musician and the "big band" sound is evident in Gino's music. Gino's brother, Joe, arranged and played keyboards for most of his recording career.

This time out, a little light shed on an iconoclastic talent and an album from the past. A little nostalgia and a little catching up.

      This guy is timeless!

The hits are okay but this album is one of the best in orchestral rock history!

I still think The Moody Blues' "Days of Future Past" is the benchmark for that sort of music...but then, I am also a big fan of the Love Unlimited Orchestra, which was really Barry White's backup band, if you like that sort of modern ochestral stuff.

Gino Vanelli really takes me back though.

It has integrity. His music was "pop" but had other elements as well it was good pop.

It was rich, therefore it became popular as a result. Gino never sold his soul. He attracted the market.

There is a big band sense in it as well.

His music has been date music for every 40 person I know. I turned my students in CR onto him just a few years ago, and they all ran out an got the Pauper in Paradise Symphony.

The next month they all took me to a Rush concert. They went 70's crazy!

Took a while to download the video with dialup but it was really worth it, both the song and video where awesome. What a wonderfull way to preserve the history of that day.

AS for the music of the seventies it was a great time for not only the music but for people as well.

His Music also has strong lyrics too. I still remember riding in the car and listening to "I Just Wanna Stop" on "WLS" radio out of Chicago when it was still on the AM band....Now of course its just talk radio...........Those were good memories.

Beautiful blend and harmonization, & a very commendable piece to 9/11 I must say.

This Guy has always been one of my favorite artists He's true to his craft. In a day when there is so much good music lost in the quagmire of mediocrity it so nice now and then to listen to an artist like this! One of my favorite CD's of his is Slow Love Simply some of his best vocal performances. And if you ever get a chance to see him live, DO IT you won't regret it. FANTASTIC!

                        Thanks for the post Radio!

Just played "What About Me?" and "Just for Love" on my friend's public radio show a couple of weeks ago.

                              Vanelli has a great voice.
