I always felt if you could feel the emotions of his songs and ballads you were a person that could relate to people and their situations.

Johnny Cash was phenomenal. It's impossible to say which part of his career was most important...it was all relevant. One cannot ignore the influence of classics like "Ring of Fire," "A Boy Named Sue," or "Walk the Line." And his more recent interpretations of Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage" and Trent Reznor's "Hurt" kept the edge of the originals with the unique stamp of Cash that made them his own. To compare the stages of his career is like comparing apples and oranges...it's ALL good!
A truly iconic artist!

"I began to warm and chill
To objects and their fields,
A ragged cup, a twisted mop
The face of Jesus in my soup
Those sinister dinner deals
The meal trolley's wicked wheels
A hooked bone rising from my food
All things either good or ungood"
From "Mercy Seat" - Johnny Cash
Never been locked up but the mental imagery of this song is so strong you can feel the bars.
An American icon. We should all get the chance to live such a life.

I really liked Johnny. He had trouble with the demons that often plagued the industry, but his wife, June Carter Cash always stood behind him & helped him overcome his problems.
Perhaps it was Christ who helped him most, as reportedly he received Him as his Savior. Between Christ & June, I think he finally licked his problem with alcohol.
What isn't often known is that Billy Graham had made a movie of Johnny, "The Gospel Road," which we had as a special service in our church, back in the 70's. -Rev. S

Johnny Cash is the man. He had a powerful amazing voice, fast as a train sharp as a razor. He was a true American icon. I feel he was in his prime in the Days of "I Walk the Line, "Ring of Fire', and Cry!, Cry!, Cry!", but I also loved his rendition of "Hurt", it really spoked to me. He was just the greatest musician ever. He was so amazing it's a shame not everyone is a fan of him.
