"..Charlie Dunn loved this song and his friends sang it at his funeral in 1993. Charlie was in his early 80's when he made my boots back in 1973. Jerry Jeff Walker's ode to Charlie is a classic tribute to custom bootmakers and aficionados..." Dennis Morgan

"...I remember when Charlie was tracing my foot measurements and questioned me about the t-shirt and boots I was wearing. Before I could utter a word Charlie said, "Clarks beeswax desert treks--English". Aside from dress shoes I've only wore Clarks boots (I think he liked that). He was puzzled though by my explanation of the, 'Wishbone Ash' English band t-shirt. I told him I worked for Jerry Jeff Walker's record company . And Charlie just smiled and went on and on about Ol' Scamp Walker, his new best friend.."

From the forthcoming Dennis Morgan semi-autobiography, "All The Dark Horses; All The King's Men"

I've been searching for a new pair of boots. Love my Clarks, but somewhere out there is a pair of Lucchese boots with my name on 'em.

Hi greenmac! Thanks for that link!

Just a little "music note", Jerry Jeff Walker is not considered country by the "country music" crowd. He and a few other Texans like Waylon and Willie and the boys are the "Outlaws" because they don't fit the standard mold.

If hers was the bed my boots were under she'd not have to worry. WOW!!!!

Now that is a leather outfit. MY MY MY. Some serious eye candy and can sing like that as well.

Man, I don't know. She makes an "old" man feel young.

      Thans for the link

You gotta' love J.J. Walker! I've been listening to his music for years and love everything he's done, including this song. Every song he writes tells a story about someone in his life from Hondo Crouch to David Bromberg, hell he even wrote a song about Nolan Ryan! Some of his songs make you laugh and others make you cry and some'll do both, but none of 'em will bore you. Thanks for submitting this CA!

I've been a fan of "Ole Scamp" Walker for years too! I first became aware of him when he and the gang came over one night and played until morning when it was time for them to head over to Goodnight Sound in Farmers Branch to record, I think it was, "Viva Terlingua". And years later he's playing the Southwest Airlines "# and last" Chili Cookoffs...

Great video and music, Annie, thanks!

I have two pairs of Dan Post boots made of calf leather. They are the most comfortable pair of boots I have ever worn!

Thanks Angel wings! Did you see the "Luckenbach Moon" that Uncle Dave submitted above?

I found the best way to break in a new pair of boots is to go out walking in the morning dew, (preferably down the side of a mountain, hunting for wild strawberries).

Yeah, Justin makes a decent pair of boots. Bet they look good on you as well.

Then again a pretty lady in boots, well there isn't much that is easier on the eyes than that.

I personally think the best song by Jerry Jeff is L.A. Freeway. Which he didn't write, it was written by Guy Clark. Love this song. Can't find the original album cut, but here's a really good version without the full band:

I have always liked the way he did that song. I thought Jeff wrote LA Freeway until just recently, when I found out it was Guy Clark.

Should have known you'd be a Jeff Walker fan, Bkumm. ;D

BK, L.A. Freeway was on his 1972 release Jerry Jeff Walker. I think it was on two other subsquent albums.

Good tune. Is this from the Cosmic Cowboy era? And it started in Austin, correct?

I want to continue the thread,...so:

Here's a BOOTleg video, shot in Austin and features a country tune.

I have never seen Hank William III before! Forget about fifty mission hats, those looked like at least 100 mission hats they were wearin'! Looks like he is carrying on a long family tradition... BOOTleg, hahaha... ;D

Hi bugluver, there's nothin' wrong with Red Wings! Even my dad has some of those in his boot collection (and he's a long time boot connoisseur).

I saw Jerry Jeff at Gruene Hall in December. If you're a true fan, you've got to find a way to get there. I'd seen him dozens of times over the last 15-20 years, but nothing compared to Gruene Hall. If you don't know about it, do some research. It was the best I've ever heard him play, and, like most of his shows, he could've played without singing a word - everyone in the crowd knows every single word. He's a legend, in the true sense of the word!

His CD Live at Gruene Hall is one of my favorites, and "I Feel like Hank Williams Tonight" is my favorite cut.
