The Time Has Come For Change »
Posted by: Spadecaller 7 months agoBob Dylan's great classic sets the backdrop for showing the current political scence in contrast to real hope for change. This Spadecaller clip features a mix of events from Katrina to Darfur, the tsunami that hit Indondnesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, in addition to the Iraq War, and the nation's quest to leave the old order behind on Election Day

"Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown" (Dylan)
"The Times They Are a-Changin'" is a song written by Dylan and released on his 1964 album of the same name. It's message is universal. Hope you enjoy my updated interpretation.

Thanks Spadecaller! Great song and good video...(I watched it twice ...and still don't know what I must think when you mixt Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton with Bush? I know what was Hillary Clinton's opinion about Irak war in the past...and the story of your son....Sorry: may be I am wrong!). The last picture of John MacCain is terrifying!

Spade with all due respect for the sake of honesty you should have a shot of Barak being flanked by his puppet masters Kerry and Kennedy. If you are talking change lets be specific about exactly what we are changing to.

I hope from the bottom of my heart that "Things are a-changing". Enjoyed the song as always, and the message as well.

The 1960s brought several iconic singers to the fore--people who were not afraid to speak their minds. People who were not afraid to care for each other. Here is one of my favorites.

I saw a biography on Dylan once and was always amazed that he came from a sleepy little town not on the cutting edge of society at the time he was most popular .Hanging in Greenwich Village in Manhattan with Lou Reed and the like , alot of people just assumed he was from The City .And that in that town His family were one of the only ones of Jewish decent .

I thought Obama was not taking corporate donations because he wasn't going to be beholding to big money?
Goldman Sachs $421,763
Here is a list of the corporate donations he has accepted

CHART: This chart lists the top donors to this candidate in the 2008 election cycle. The organizations themselves did not donate , rather the money came from the organization's PAC, its individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates.
Because of contribution limits, organizations that bundle together many individual contributions are often among the top donors to presidential candidates. These contributions can come from the organization's members or employees (and their families).

So I thought he was not taking PAC money either? Or are you saying that it depends on what the definition of is, is? Nice make me think of that glass house stone thing. Depends on how you define it. Good month in January for him he raised a bunch of money from special interest that of course he being him will not be beholding to. LOL. Sorry I guess I see a double standard here and just more than a little manipulation. Make a pledge and find a loophole to get around it. Are you sure GWB was not his mentor?

Interesting production. Thought provoking. Loved the Tsunami pictures.
A change is coming, but I hope that, to echo the phrase by the Who ..."See the new boss. Same as the old boss"... does not become the reality of the rhetoric of "Change".
I mean we are talking about US Politicians and they are famous or infamous for being duplicitous to cover their secret agendas.
Thanks for the invite Spade.
I truly loved the flick.

..."See the new boss. Same as the old boss"...
Regardless of how this election year ends, it will still be the same old, same old. If you look hard enough at history, you will always find a person, group, or even an entire nation screaming that "things just have to change". The problem is that for all of the efforts of those like SC, Dylan, King and all the rest, things don't really change. Oh, you will see differences. But people are the same today, as they were several thousand years ago.
In the end, people like to see change for themselves, not for everyone else. There is only one person that truly wanted change that did something about it. He allowed himself to be nailed to a cross.
SC, I challenge you that if you truly want change, I'll get the nails and lumber, you name the hill...

Excellent images to follow the song, and it's certainly a song of these times, perhaps more so than when it was written.

Oh Spadecaller, this is a fine one!
I wonder if Dylan realised when he wrote this remarkable song that it would echo down the ages, and remain as fresh and relevant as the day it was penned -- 44 years ago.
In 1964 I remember listening hard to the words, and was particularly struck by the phrase "...don't criticize what you can't understand" and used it frequently -- to my increasingly worried parents, concerned at the growing "weirdness" of their mid-teenage son. This line stayed through the years, and was a useful reminder for me as a father, parenting my own children through their teenage years, a decade ago.
This is one of so many Dylan songs (others being Hard Rain, Chimes of Freedom, God on our Side, etc)which has become an anthem.
Again, a fine thread, Spade, & cheers to you.
