Like I said this song is just sheer beauty.Whether Christian or not this weekend has come to signal the coming of spring, hope and renewal.

"I once was blind but now I see." I hope everyone learns to"see" more clearly in what ever manner your personal path leads.

Beautiful hymn and sentiment rdy2rck.

I have loved this song since I was a child, a few years at least. LOL

"I was lost but now I'm found." 10,000 years will be just like the beginning. Makes our lifetime seem short by comparison.

Thanks rdy God Bless you and yours.

One of my favorite hymns. Thanks Ndy.

No problem except if this doesn't post.A lot of art and music was Christian for centuries because of the dominance but I like what I like and this is just a gem for me.

And I also love a good choir and pipe organ.

You did good rdy, great submission! Thanks.

Any big Easter plans? As it turns out this year, Easter is also our wedding anniversary! We need some really great hymns for Easter!!

Yeah. This year ALL the family can come in from out of town and that's great.Happy Anniversary.

Like I said, this is one of my favorites for just the song but when I found out it was written by a reformed slave trader made it more beautiful still.

But I hope I keep this mood up my comments are hardly going through today.LOL

Real good. I hope this posts.having big probs today. That's kind of the music my church plays so I know it well. We also play a little more foot stomping Christian rock too.:)

But call this old coot stubborn, but there's a modern version of Amazing Grace and some songs I just don't like changed.

I think what makes this a remarkable hymn is the fact that the writer John Newton was a former captain of a slave ship, and didn't consider himself a "true" Christian until late in his life. This has always been one of my favorite hymns.

Thanks rdy2rck, good pick.

You're all quite welcome.I hesitated about posting a "religous" song and then thought heck with it.That's what this country is supposed to be about. Tolerance. And to me the song is beautiful.

I usually don't look at votes but see a Muslim, atheist and jewish friend voted for it so the beauty of the song grows even more.

And an Agnostic...LOL. I like a lot of faith style music....though I can relate to it in a way that does not take organized religion into the equation. Amazing grace is one of the tunes I like to hear at xmas.

avatar

Yeah, I kind of shun away from "organized" religion. Some folks need it and that's great.

I say I go to "church", but that's way simplistic.I go to a House of Worship to praise and congregate in love. There must be something to it, because The Vineyard is the fastest growing religous movement in the USA.But I gotta smile when I see 75 year olds with there hands in the air trying to boogey down to Christian Rock:)

BTW-Igor with them eyeballs I figured you must be something but couldn't figure out what.I just figured you was something else like an alien.LMAO

Actually I was born on the same time as Roswell....LOL

avatar

Well we can't blame that conspiracy on Bush or Clinton.LMAO Or can we?Maybe Bush and Clinton are Alien clones. I'll call the History Channel so they can make a show.:)

avatar

Bush was born slightly after Roswell....hmmm could his father have been an alien.....

avatar

Makes sense...wasn't his grandfather George Jetson Walker Bush?

Isn't Agnostic something people drink at Christmas.:)

So R2R did you know the music compilation can be interchanged with " House of the Rising Sun " , by Eric Burden and the Animals ? It's the same tempo and cadence . I went to a church meet one time and that's how they played it .

Thanks. I can't quote stats but saw that there is a dramatic rise in the US of people believing in the afterlife of some kind.Doesn't surprise me though.

A great tune for today by a great band in my opinion, only it is ruined by a stupid cartoon, so close your eyes when you listen

really, really enjoyed that one. It sounds so familiar.I'd almost bet it was done by a so called Christian Rock group. Sounds certainly like the tunes where I go.

Years ago I heard a cut of Mark Farmer from Grand Funk doing a christian version of "Some Kinda Wonderful"

No an English folk rock band who at one time had Rick Wakeman as keyboard man, before he joined "Yes"

Also heard that Rev.Ian Paisley used to sing with them but haven't checked it out

Don't get me started on YES Hannibal. My very favorite. That would start me on a whole other post.LOL

I've seen them so many times.Saw them with an orchestra, saw Rick solo and my last dream is to see Jon solo with a choir. I do believe in miracles.

I have always enjoyed this hymn and whether it is being sung or being played by a bunch of pipers. I can listen to it over and over. Thanks rdy2rck, nice way to end my day.

I love good bag pipe to canada but couldn't find one I liked enough to post before I found this singer.

Thank you, Rdy2rck! Amazing Grace is one of my all-time favorite hymns, too.

And, for Easter Day, "He's Alive", by Don Francisco:

Thanx, R2r! Nana Mouskowri is the best female vocal I've ever heard for "Amazing Grace." I'd spent time listening to Joan Collins & Leann Rimes, but I didn't think they were as good as Nana.

The best male vocal I believe is Whitney Phipps, who gives a very interesting presentation of John Newton's famous hymn:

I've heard him sing more verses of the song, but he's great!

A Blessed Easter y'all! The greatest victory in the world was won that day! -Rev. S

really, really loved it and educational.he looks like my kind of preacher.(chuckle)You can worship God with a smile on your face.

Indeed, R2r! Wesley really seems to enjoy encouraging Christians. I love to hear him sing with the feeling he exudes.

The Christian has all the reason to smile. I like often to lighten the moment with some good clean humor. The Scripture also says: "A merry heart doeth good, like a medicine." Proverbs 17:22. -Rev. S

That's why Silver when I say I go to "church" is kind of stereotypical. We praise, rejoice and Worship an yes smile and laugh in a respectful way. Some of our preachers are hysterical if the sermon calls for it.

It was so heartwarming waking up this morning to see how many folks voted on this post and not only Christians.Whether Christian or not people got the message that Jesus sent. Love,Peace...

Sure, I'll freely admit that I would like everyone to become Christians, but Jesus challenged people to think and didn't force feed. He offered so can I do any better? And Jesus opened his arms to ALL people and condemned no one.

So all this humble person can do is try live the goals Jesus set and respect every other peaceful person.

Peace and Love
