Let me take a guess.A big Black Sabbath fan, stop me if i'm wrong,a guy that has seen Tony Iommi live a few times..lets see,,you hate it right.:-)

Well, you kind of got it a little backwards.LOL

Another good one, bd. Would've liked to have seen the live show, but the music was good enough.

(Remembering Iommi was a Hendrix-style leftie lead guitarist, I'm trying to recall others....and failing!)

Definately one of the creators of heavy metal but Iommi without Ozzi is like the Doors without Morrison imo.

I kind of agree, but i kinda don't.lol..I think this album called "Fused" with Glen Huges is a pretty fair album,it's not Ozzy but then again i think that some of Ozzy's best stuff has been with Zakk.lol

Not too familiar with the album but will check it out. I like Ozzys later albums like "Ultimate Sin". Eighties glam video but good music: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Om24gvzWcLY

It's amazing what a Gibson SG can sound like in the right hands.

Good pick.

I love the SG.lol It was my first electric.

Right Badd. Truly a great instrument to play.

One of the interesting things about the SG(Solid Guitar) is how the neck is scaled. You have enough space between frets to minimize mistakes esp at up tempo speeds and the neck is not crowded by the body in a way that curtails access to the frets 12 and above. It should be considered a pure players instrument.

Also I think the slim SG body, which the neck is a part of(I.e., the neck is not a bolt on like the Strat) is still made of Mahogany which gives it excellent 'sustain' qualities even for its 'thin' design.

I hear Les Paul designed the SG as well as the Les Paul electric.

Just curious icono or baddad, but what kind of lead guitar is the guy on the far right(Stu Smith?) playing. It just sounds so different. It is hard to get a good look at.Thanks. http://youtube.com/watch?v=tbq9irZtRfY

The Eagles are great.I think it was an Sg(or a Les Paul jr.)but i couldn't get a good view.It has a sound like a tele.

Badd is right. It is difficult to say because of the view. I also think it is a SG with the single coil pickup configuration which will give it a clean sound.

Freeze-framed it a few times, it looked like a double-cutaway at one point, almost like a Gretsch. But would put no money on that. It was blood red, though, that's for sure.

I like Sg's,but i play more Ibanez guitars these days, well Ibanez and others.I am usually playing an old 1978 Pf 200(les paul copy, one of the lawsuit guitars). My favorite guitar at the time is a Yamaha AES 720,with dimarzio pick-ups.Mahogany body and neck.It screams beautifully and i love it.Got it about four months ago and it has replaced my fender and a couple of others as my main guitar.

There are advantages to both the neck thru design and bolt ons.My test, and i think most guitarist will agree,is when i plug a guitar in and it talks to ME in about the first 30 seconds then it is a good guitar.LOl.There is some kind of weird voodoo thing that happens when a guitar wants you to take it home, kind of like a pretty woman:-)

AS far as Les Paul and the SG(which were initially called Les Pauls)i don't think he designed it.In fact when they put his name on it he kind of came undone. He didn't think the neck was strong,or stable enough for serious players.

Not a guitar player but I try to distinguish what kind of guitar someone is playing by sound. I saw an old Grestch(sp) at a pawn shop not too long ago and was curious to what that sounded like.

All of the old Gretsch I've ever listened to always had a very clean and unique sound even when overdriven by the amp.

They were also very stable and dependable as a stage instrument but at the time not overly loud and obnoxious (a friend on mine told me 'that' was due to the pickups being wound a certain way) with a very sweet playing action.

The old Gretsch seemed to be a favorite of the 'old school' C&W crowd and Rock-a-Billie bands.

Thanks.

Bad you are right; guitar selection is subjective and the neck through and the bolt-on both have strong points and weak points.

My all time favorite is the old Gibson 335 series hooked into a good small tube amp. They 'talk' to me. Sweet & smooth.

So ol' Les didn't like the SG design because of stability issues; I wonder what he thought about Jimi Hendrix abusing a much more fragile Strat back in the day;-)

But the SG is still one hell of a playable instrument because of the accessible neck; kinda like a woman that has legs that go from the floor all the way to the top of her head:-)

The AES 720 is a great instrument. Enjoy.

I wore that Jo Jo Gunn 8 track out at that time. I saw Head East, another one hit wonder, along with ZZ top. And of course,"Ive got a hot rod" Black Oak Arkansas.

Head East! Now I haven't heard or heard of that band in decades. The tracks I remember were explosive stuff, late 70s or thereabouts.
