Music – This new video features Melanie Safka singing "Chords of Fame" written by Phil Ochs (1971). Salvador Dali and Vincent Van Gogh's works are represented along with Spadecaller's art and graphics. A Spadecaller Video.
Isn't Melanie Safka the same person who sung, "I're got a brand new pair of roller skates"? Sounds like her..
Do you ever sell any of your artwork SC? I love the music you set to your artwork, but the art is just amazing. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Same person. At the height of her career late 60's -early 70's, she was only known by her first name, Melanie.
I still sell a few pieces here and there. BAck in the days, I exhibited in New York, where I sold several major paintings.
I attended the School of Visual Arts on East 23rd St. in Manhattan. Painted and lived in Montreal for a while and then came back and exhibited work in NY.
Since my disability and muscle spasms, I am limited to what I can do. So I find using the computer and adobe photoshop to be a good alternative and it keeps my need to create under control. If I am not doing some creative work, I tend to get irritible and discontent. (As you may have noticed in the not too distant past.)
Thanks Francisca; I'm selective. When one of the neocon nutjobs, anti-Semites, or racists attack me, I take it out on them. LOL!
Salute your fortitude, Spade. Had not realised you endured any disability at all.
This is another fine thread -- Melanie had(has) one of the most haunting of all voices (she performed at the Woodstock music and arts fare, '69. Her "Song to the Rain", happily caught on tape, is unforgettable).
The music is beautifully complimented by your choice of images, too. Van Gogh, I guess, is one of the artists you relate most closely to -- his work has an extraordinary emotional power. You also had a nice adaptation of an Austrian painter's work whose name I cannot remember.
Beautiful art and great choreography again, Spade. The words in the song ring so true. The search for fame is laden with life's traps and so many have fallen in them. I thought the use of Elvis was particularly meaningful. We are such complex creatures. The video left me a little melancholy and sad with the stark realization how much we all need love.

LYRICS:
I found him by the stage last night,
He was breathing his last breath,
A bottle of gin and a cigarette
Was all he had left.
Well, I know that you make music
'Cause you carry your guitar,
But God help the troubadour
Who tries to be a star.
Come on and play
the chords of love my friend,
Play the chords of fame
But if you wanna keep your song, no no no,
Don't play the chords of fame, oh no no.
You know I've seen my share of hustlers
As they try to take the world,
And when they find their melody
They're surrounded by the girls.
But it all fades so quickly
Like a sunny summer day;
Reporters ask you questions
And may write down what you say.
So come on and play
the chords of love my friend,
Play the chords of fame
But if you wanna keep your song, no no no,
Don't play the chords of fame, oh no no.
(continued)
They'll rob you of your innocence,
They'll put you up for sale,
The more that you will find success,
The more that you will fail.
I'd been around, I had my share
And I really can't complain
But I wonder who I left behind
On the other side of fame
Oh come on and play
the chords of love my friend,
Play the chords of fame
But if you wanna keep your song, no no no,
Don't play the chords of fame, oh no.
No, oh don't play the chords of fame,
Oh don't, no don't, don't play the chords of fame.
