  Robby Krieger is a highly underrated guitarist. Used to have all the Doors LPs. Played the crap out of them. 1967 was a damned good year for music.

    I agree . Jim Morrison was a poet who put his words to the music of The Doors .
    I remember them on Ed Sullivan .
    I always thought thier signature song was " Light my fire " .
    Jose Felisiano [?] does a good job with it too .

  A trip with Jim.....a ride with the poet..... a disturbed poet. I find that when I sit back and listen I develop synergy with the man and his music. His lyrics are black at times but I can follow him through his moods.

      Hi CA... enjoy the ride. The sad part about Morrison was that he enabled his own demise. The question I ask my self is.... did he want to destroy himself...or did he what to create that illusion for his fans and it just got out of control.

        Maybe he was just looking for the ultimate "Other Side" and didn't understand what it entailed. Or maybe he was just too drunk and high and didn't realize what he was doing. Who knows, maybe the rumors his demise was all staged so he could start a new, quieter life were true. Nah, he finally blew it big time. He was one who was out of control on a regular basis. He definitely took life to the extreme.
        But, man oh man, his music was good...

        Some of those close to him said he realized he went too far with drugs toward the end, but it was too late. Grace Slick said one time while in Amsterdam with Morrison they were mobbed by people offering all kinds of free drugs. Grace said she picked and chose what she wanted and Jim ingested everything on the spot.
        On a side note, Morrison had a tight cadre of drinking buddies back in California. Among then was a young Alice Cooper.

        No what was a jem was Jimi and Jim, performing on the album. One Day I Woke Up And Found Myself Dead. Not too many people have heard of that album. Nor did a lot of people know that they had recorded together.

        There were a lot of premature launching and a few sinkings. I wasn't one of them. One marina was a mess...boats floating all over the place.... not a pretty site. The water is starting to recede now.

I see where your coming from Igor.I had the same experience with Ozzy. Although a Black Sabbath fan in the early years I felt his I don't know the write word even beyond his partying.To me it "felt" like he had a dark soul and was crying for help."Paranoid."

Nice pick GM (how many times have we said that). Love the Doors! I think Ray Manzarek has been over looked in this post. Here's an interview he did plugging his book.

A good read on the REAL Jim Morrison for those so inclined by Stephen Davis called Jim Morrison: Life, Death, Legend. Gets into what really happened in Paris including an interesting theory on how he really died.
