Music – George Micheal performed this live on American Idol tonight. This is the original....a great song from his much underrated CD "Listen Without Prejudice"...
Scotty, beam me aboard. I have never watched American Idol, my time in the sun was way back in the '50s, '60s, '70s, and the 80s. I really thought we had turned the corner on greed, illegal wars, racism, and ignorance. This tune reminds me the fight ain't over 'til it's over. Everything we fought for was taken back by politicos. Starting with Reagan and Bush, Bush, and now his son baby George. Hasn't anyone ever asked why Bush loves the Whitehouse so very much? He has nothing in common with the founders of this great country. Everything Bush touches turns to bull-spuds. Death and bankruptcy follows him like a shadow. Why???
I ask that singular question every time Bush opens his mouth.
Interesting story about this song and the CD it is from:
After his success with Wham! and the blockbuster solo debut, "Faith," George Michael wanted desperately to move beyond the MTV poster boy / teen idol image. He wanted to be taken seriously as an artist. In the late summer of 1990, we got this single, "Praying for Time," which had a video consisting only of words splashed on and dark background. The album "Listen Without Prejudice, Vol. 1" soon followed and he stayed true to his word not to use his image in the videos from the album...in fact, his leather jacket from the "Faith" video is set on fire in the video for "Freedom '90"...
And its hard to love,
Theres so much to hate
Hanging on to hope
When there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above
Say its much too late
Well maybe we should all be
Praying for time....
This album is one my guilty pleaures. George reminds me of Amy Winehouse, the outrageous behavior overshadowing the monstrous talent. Both sad stories. But this album has some of the best musicianship I have ever heard. The keyboards on Freedom '90 are astonishing. That is the only song with any relation to Wham! which was truly awful stuff. George knew it too. Gospel tinged songs (They Wont Go When I Go), percussive brilliance (Cowboys and Angels) and even a wartime lament (Mothers Pride). Someone challenged me to listen to this as a musician and I indeed learned to Listen Without Prejudice. A brilliant album IMO.

It was 4 or so minutes of beautifully shared emotion.
I wonder how many were thinking about how much better mankind would be with less war and less poverty?
(or is that too socialist/liberal to think?)
I'm proud to be a liberal, & considering the alternative, will never waiver from that.
